David is a middle-aged man who is in the process of getting a divorce. He feels broken and lost. He goes over to his sister to stay there for some time. His brother-in-law, Ty, suggests that they should go on a summit. He has never been a hiker and never dreamt of climbing the mountains. With everything else going so bad, he joins Ty on this adventure. It awakens a passion within him. His friends and family disapprove of mountain climbing, but he believes that is what he needs. People around him do not understand why someone would expose himself to such dangerous activities that could be life-threatening at times. In this book, he takes us on the adventures of the seven summits, why he chose each of them, the obstacles faced, his interactions with other people during the climbs, and what his reward was for accomplishing them.

The author’s writing style is engaging. He shares his adventures in a captivating and easy-to-follow manner. He gives readers vivid descriptions of the summits, the challenges he faced, and how he felt throughout the journey. He shares the private thoughts that were running through his mind during the mountain climbing, and he is not afraid to show his vulnerability during the difficult moments when he almost gave up. Through his experience, he gives readers a source of inspiration. He gives out all the details honestly, and readers can relate more to him as a person who faces the same life challenges as everyone else.

One positive aspect that stood out for me in the book was the Papua Guinea summit. David meets Carol, a 61-year-old woman, and learns that she has summited Mt Everest. As they proceed on the climb, Carol seems to be struggling, and David keeps assuring her and showing so much faith in her abilities.

I loved the whole book, and there is no single negative element I could find with it. I felt like I was a part of the author's journey and was happy with the growth he made over the years. I rate The Altitude Journals by David J Mauro 4 out of 4 stars. The book is professionally edited, as I did not notice any grammatical errors.

This book is suitable for readers who enjoy non-fiction and adventure-packed books. Readers draw inspiration from the author and his ability to resolve his problems at the end of every expedition. Each adventure brought in a new understanding and discovery of himself.
