Barbra Streisand On The Couch
By DR. Alma.H.Bond

Dr Bond is a retired Psychoanalytic also known for interviewing many accomplished women. She is a full time writer and the author and publisher of 24 books.
Barbra Streisand is an American singer, actress and Philanthropist amongst other things she has also many achievements in directing, producing and songwriting. In the book Dr Bond disguised as Dr Darcy Dale gets a visit from Barbra who is seeking therapy as she battles with "finding peace" Barbra begins by giving Dr Dale an account of her childhood, career, failures as well as her many successes throughout her life.

Barbra who at first comes across as " hostile and narcissistic" to Dr Dale then goes on to having many sit down sessions with the doctor. Contributing the loss of her beloved father as the beginning of her sadly unfortunate hardships which ultimately leads to a very difficult and strenuous relationship with her mother who labels her child as "mieskiet" meaning ugliniss in Yiddish, but she also credits her mother's mistreatment towards her as the reason to what aided her in becoming so headstrong and determined which led to her success. The treatment that Barbra had recieved from her stepfather not only leaves gaping scars but it is what also became the starting point to the many turbulent relationships she had with men which becomes prevalent in her choices of partners as some of the relationships she chose resulted in sometimes toxic and dangerous situations that surprised Dr Dale as well, at one point in the book she says " I couldn't believe that fiesty Barbra Streisand had put up with such abuse"

Not only do we get to read the struggles of Miss Streisand on a very personal level but also on the professional side of her life where she talks about the sexism and discrimination she was subjected to in the industry where she downplays her treatment to "Hollywood doesn't like me" but despite Miss Streisand being such a strong willed character the reader will also get to see her soft motherly side in which she discusses the loving yet challenging relationship she has with her child. This book will be a difficult one to not complete.

I did not find anything I dislike about this book.
By the end of the book the reader is sure to get a better understanding of Barbra Streisand as a person. She most definately does not hold anything back sharing everything from love to loss, broken friendships, motherhood ect... It had me becoming emotional at times and it also had me chuckling at times.I most definately recommend this book to anyone who needs motivation from young and old to just the public in general.

I give this book 4 out of 4
