Review of Mariner's Story 4: Outlanders

Mariner, Banover, and Nickie are members of the police department in Toronto, dedicated to uncovering how the drug trade operates in the city. The administrators at the top wish to break up the group by reassigning them to different groups. To stay together, they must quickly discover something meaningful to work on. This leads them to investigate a notorious motorcycle gang in the city known as the Outlanders.
This motorcycle gang is part of various chains of drug dealers that sell hard drugs. In addition to selling these drugs with a dose of fentanyl, which has led to many deaths, this group is notorious for committing various other crimes in Toronto. Mariner and his team are determined to do whatever is necessary to take them down. However, investigations that lead to the raid of the Outlander's clubhouse will set in motion a peculiar chain of events and mysteries that need to be uncovered by Mariner and his team.
Mariner's Story 4: Outlanders forms part of an eight-part series written by Bill Freeman. The book has a few positive aspects. Firstly, it was written in a simple and straightforward manner. This simplicity of style and diction will enable the reader to understand the contents of this fiction novel easily. Also, the story was moderate in length. Since the plot is not overly stretched or elongated, the reader's attention is adequately sustained throughout this book. In addition, I found only a few errors after I finished reading it. This is proof that the book was professionally edited.
However, this crime fiction is not without negative points. Firstly, it lacked that tension that keeps one on the edge of one's seat, which most enthralling crime-fiction novels possess. It lacked the elements of surprise, suspense, and climax point, which make reading a crime-fiction story exciting. Consequently, I found myself accurately guessing what would come next after some events or occurrences.
Also, I must admit that I did not find the characterisation in this book to be impressive. For example, Taylor, the president of the Outlanders, is presented as one who is not intelligent. However, I find his decision to keep the motorcycle key of a deceased person after his death to be simply unrealistic, rather than portraying his lack of intelligence.
Consequently, I rate Mariner's Story 4: Outlanders 3 out of 4 stars. I did not give this book a lower rating because it was still professionally edited. I recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading crime fiction. In particular, I recommend it to all who like to read about uncovering murder, crimes, and mysteries.
