Waves Break (on Unknown Shores) by Barry Litherland is told in a first-person perspective and is about lifelong friends, Phil, Wayne, and Tina, who have stood by each other through very trying times. A very traumatic event happened in their past which still follows and haunts them in the present.

What do I think about the characters? I like the loyalty and devotion of Tina. I like Phil's problem-solving skills and calm manner. I also like his compassionate personality. I'm not very fond of Wayne, because he is a trouble maker and his nonchalant behavior does not fit with all the horrible stuff that happened to him as a child. And even when he isn't causing trouble, trouble and death follow him like a shadow. There are some jealousy and resentment between the characters. Barry Litherland is a very skilled writer. The book draws you in and makes you keep reading so that you can find out all its secrets. What I liked the most about the book is the realness of the characters. Phil’s character is honest and not scared to admit his faults and fears.

This book left me with a sad feeling after reading it. Not everyone got their happy ending, and the sad events from the past will always linger in the characters' lives. And all the bad stuff that happened will never go away or be made well.

This book does contain crude humor/language, moderate substance abuse by adults. This book does contain scenes of a violent nature and abuse.

I have to give Waves Break (on Unknown Shores) a 4 out of 4 stars because it was well edited and I enjoyed the storyline with all its drama and fear. This book did not have many grammatical and typographical errors in it that would take away from the story or disturb the flow of reading. I feel the book was professionally edited. Because of the scenes of violence in this book, it is not suited for kids and teens or sensitive individuals. And also because there where were profanities and foul language in this book.

This book would be a perfect fit for readers who enjoy drama, crime, and stories with hard life lessons in them. I recommend it to adults who enjoy these types of books and genres. I strongly do not recommend this book to children and people who have experienced neglect and abuse as children. Overall this is a great read.

I'm not very fond of Wayne, because he is a trouble maker and his nonchalant behavior does not fit with all the horrible stuff that happened to him as a child. And even when he isn't causing trouble, trouble and death follow him like a shadow.
This caught my attention because, unfortunately, acting out and getting into trouble is sometimes a reaction to a traumatic experience. I get that you don't like the character, but the reaction is congruent.
This book left me with a sad feeling after reading it. Not everyone got their happy ending, and the sad events from the past will always linger in the characters' lives. And all the bad stuff that happened will never go away or be made well.
That's life for you. We don't always get a happy ending. I don't mean to be grim, I just think the author tried to create a realistic story, and that's part of it.

I enjoyed very much reading your insights. Thank you.

Thank you for your honest review filled with helpful details. I enjoy reading stories about groups of lifelong friends who support each other through life's ups and downs. It sounds like the ending mirrors real life. We don't always get a happy ending. Well done.
