Michelle Lander Feinberg writes about a dog's place in the family in the children's book Please Don't Tell Cooper He's A Dog. This book follows a family who has adopted a dog, who feels so welcomed into their family that he is almost human.

Cooper does not act as any other regular dog would act, he doesn't like to chase balls or sticks and won't do tricks; in fact, his behaviour is closer to a human, like his joy for ballet and eating from a plate. Cooper's actions do not mean that he is embarrassed or ashamed of being a dog but instead feels more connected to the new family that he feels more human.

This book was entertaining and amusing. I found myself wanting to know more about Cooper and his family. I loved the use of rhymes, which I assume would be engaging for the children. The illustrations by Anna Mosca are charming and fit perfectly alongside the text. I admired how colourful the book was, which could draw children more into the story.

The only part I didn't quite enjoy was the story's pace. I think it was over very quickly. Other than that, I did enjoy it dearly.

Please Don't Tell Cooper He's A Dog is a very well written children's book and can be enjoyed during any part of the day by many different children, especially those fond of animals. Whether in a classroom or a bedtime story, this book is a good 'sit down with the kids' kind of book. There are also aspects of this book that can be educational for young children, such as the importance of treating animals, in this case, dogs, with love and respect, as well and learning geographic locations across Europe.

I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars because of my overall enjoyment of the book which outweighed what I did not like by a tonne. And to add onto that, there were no errors in the writing.
