[Following is a volunteer review of "Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide" by William H. Coles.]

To intrigue a reader, a fiction writer has to understand and use the literary tools of fiction writing well. This necessitates William H. Coles's publication of Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide. It's a non-fiction book that comprises the guidelines about writing fiction and storytelling, which acts as writers' guidebook for literary fictional stories. Writing literary fiction is laced with a lot of conditions, most importantly, engaging readers from the front cover to the back cover.
William H. Coles, an award-winning literary fiction writer, has written stories that readers find interesting up till now. Therefore, Coles felt he needed to put other literary writers through the murky waters of fiction writing. This book comprised two sections. The first section is divided into 12 chapters, which field the essentials and elements of story-writing. While the second section clamp on how to make this possible — the creation.
Fiction writing is a system with varying parts, missing the correct placement of a part can crumble the whole system. In the first section of the book, Coles put readers through the basics needed: narrative method, point of view (POV), Dialogue, Humour, and literary fiction generally. As I am a writer, this book came in handy in a lot of aspects, most especially the need to get readers involved. Meanwhile, this is a book for authors and students alike, embedded are insights into scarce knowledge of story-writing. For example, before reading this book I can't differentiate between an author, narrator, and character, now, the difference is clear.
"Knowledge is available everywhere," what needs to be done is the will to crave it. This book will prod the interest of any author or student to know more about story-writing. There isn't anything I find off in this book, even the author's proficiency is evident in the lack of grammatical error, devoid of profane words, well-edited, and crafted in an academic sense — simple words that are easy to understand. For this, I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Accordingly, this book is a must-read for writers, authors, students, and even readers to stay abreast of the rudiments of fiction writing.
