Hello, I'm new to the forum but can't see a thread discussing this series.

I grew up listening to tapes of the BBC radio show with my Dad and loved its quirky nature and crazy plotlines. I'd recommend the radio show and the books (which differ slightly but are still excellent) to SF and non-SF fans alike. All you need is a willing suspension of disbelief and you too will be empathizing with Arthur Dent.

Are the books based on the radio show? I have the book on my Too Be Read list, but honestly it could be years before I get to it unless it gets bumped up the list. ;)

Yes the original series (12 episodes) came first and Douglas Adams based the first two books on this with some extra things added in. He went on to write a further three books which were fairly recently dramatized by the BBC using as many original cast members as possible.

Perhaps pick up the CD of the original radio show an bump the books up that list!
