"Investigation may be likened to the long months of pregnancy and solving a problem to the day of birth. To investigate a problem is, indeed, to solve it." This quote by Mao Zedong summarizes Death Inside Diamond Head by Randolph Mase.

Justin Fisher, a former cop in New Rochelle, died while on vacation (in an attempt to fix his marriage issues) with his wife. Detectives Matthew Hogan and Kathy Russel were called upon to investigate the victim's death. The preliminary report showed that two bags of drugs were found in Justin Fisher's pocket and, his wife, Lena Fisher, was nowhere to be found. Was it just an accident, or was he murdered? How would the two detectives solve this murder mystery?

Death Inside Diamond Head aroused my love for detective stories. I liked how Matt and Kathy meticulously and intelligently carried out their investigation, leaving no stone unturned. My imaginations were engaged as I always wondered what they would do next at every point in their investigation. The combination of intrigue and suspense made me enjoy the narrative more. This was what I liked most about the book.

Another thing I liked was the author's descriptive writing style. The way he described the relationship between Matt and Kathy was real and relatable. It provided a romantic touch to the book. A good example would be:
Kathy woke up at 7 the next morning and walked onto the lanai, closing the sliding door quietly behind her. She was completely relaxed by the warm morning sun and soft crashing of the small waves, yet tremendously excited at the events of the coming day. A few minutes later, she heard the door open, and Hogan came up behind her, placing his arms around her waist and kissing the side of her head.
In addition to my likeness for the book's concise and straight-to-the-point nature, I also liked the fun and thrill. I applaud the author's ability to keep the suspense alive. I was so anxious to find out what happened to Justin Fisher. Also, the step-by-step process employed by Matt and Kathy in their investigation brought back the feeling I got whenever I solved a math problem or a puzzle.

There is absolutely nothing I disliked about the book. Death Inside Diamond Head was professionally edited; I found no errors in the book. I rate it four out of four stars, and I recommend it to people who enjoy reading investigative thrillers with a good dose of suspense.

The example you have given draws a reader nearer to the characters. I do not prefer investigative books but basing from your detailed review, I would not mind starting with this one.

Detective stories are best suited for people that are under the law enforcement.
