This book is a definite 4 out of 4 stars. The Altitude Journals by David Mauro is a gripping story of self discovery, loss, and determination. Mauro recounts his journey of conquests, summiting the seven tallest mountains in the world. Each one presented its own challenge and lesson. The storyline would resonate with anyone, not only avid adventurers. I found that by the end of the book, my mentality on determination was questioned. What does it mean to set a goal? What happens when you finally reach it? The greatest accolade of the book was Mauro’s lack of direction. He had no intention of climbing all of these mountains; instead, he found himself drawn to a new challenge which he accepted. Mauro begins the book at his lowest point, divorced, depressed, and alone. He slowly makes a comeback giving each challenge his total focus. Life in itself is like a climb, the events of each day are summitable. Each day has its own conquests that we must take pride in. There was minimal foul language, which allowed the reader to focus on the events of each day. The novel was most definitely a page turner.
