SPIRITUALITY: Modern Disciples of Jesus Christ by Bettina E. Obernuefemann is a brief volume of inspirational information channeled by the author from her spirit guides. She states that “you might consider the material as a ‘chat’ between my Inner Guidance and yours.”*

Ms. Obernuefemann began studying spirituality while looking for a way to heal from the PTSD she had struggled with for most of her life due to being abused in childhood. While recovering from a serious health crisis, she was inspired to sit at her computer, close her eyes, and begin typing the text found in this book. The author reveals that: “I heard and noted the title was to contain the words ‘Modern Disciple-MD.’”* Her work was interrupted when she had to have open-heart surgery, but she continued working on the book at a later point.

The author’s belief that the information contained in this book comes from a higher source is genuine. Although she is a devout Christian, she is never preachy or sanctimonious about her beliefs. The author states her feelings that “there are spiritual gems in all religions, as a matter of fact, in everything”* at the beginning of the book.

There is no “fire and brimstone” or scolding of doubters or non-believers. This is a very gentle and open-hearted book that contains information that will be of interest to Christians, people with metaphysical beliefs, and open-minded agnostics. The book may be comforting to individuals who have undergone trauma or abuse as the author herself did and to people feeling distressed over the current political unrest and violence in modern society.

I give SPIRITUALITY: Modern Disciples of Jesus Christ a whole-hearted four out of four stars. The book is professionally edited and well-formatted. I could not find any errors in the text.

The thing I like best about the book is the author’s benevolent nature and forthrightness. I found myself feeling calmer reading the soothing and thoughtful words on the page. As someone who was badly bullied as a child, who has been in abusive relationships, and who has generally felt alienated for most of my life, the text made me feel as if there was a chance that I too might be valued on some level.

The thing I disliked most about the book was its brevity. I wanted to read more! However, I understood the author’s reasons for publishing a concise volume. The book is as it was meant to be.

This book is a good choice for Christians or individuals with an open mind regarding religion and spirituality. I identify as an agnostic and I appreciated the information presented by the author. I never felt like I was being preached at or proselytized to. I felt that the author was genuine in her beliefs and simply wishes to help others find peace in a troubled world.

I do not believe that this book would be an appropriate choice for either atheists or hardline fundamentalist Christians. Atheists would be likely to find the references to God unpalatable, and fundamentalists might well feel that the author’s open-minded spiritual approach does not adhere to the belief systems of strict Christian sects.

I would want to read this book to find out more about spirituality and modern day disciples of Jesus, but of course it wouldn't mean I agree with all the content. Every person has his or her own understanding of spirituality. The book sounds to be inspirational to victims of trauma and abuse but at the same time limited in terms of audience to Christians, people with metaphysical beliefs, and open-minded agnostics.

To me being a Christian and spirituality as well as spirit guides don't go together. I don't think this is a book for me, but I'm glad you found it to your liking. The review was informative and interesting.

Books on the inside life of those dedicated to a life of spiritually are always a wonderful way to minister to the soul of others. From the sample read, I see the author driven need to share and I admire that. She opts to share her testimony rather than to out right persuade the reader to be like her. She expresses that all have challenges but overcoming them is not impossible.

While the book sounds inspiring, I don't think it is for me. With that being said, I am sure there are many readers who would gravitate towards this book as it sounds like the author uses a soothing and non-judgmental approach. Thanks for the informative review!

The authors approach as outlined in the review increases the attractiveness of the book. It seems to be a book to locate some solace .

The connection and reference that the author made to her personal trials renders an immediate appeal since conflict seems to be an innate part of each human soul and the search for tranquility is within us all.

The reviewer really did an amazing job of promoting this book. They were able to show how this book is able to relate to a wide range of people, whether Christian, agnostic, or open-minded. As the author struggled with PTSD, I feel like this book may be able to speak gently to many who have been wounded and seek comfort. The reviewer was even able to say that the book’s words brought a calmness, and for that purpose alone, I believe it may become a special book to many. Congrats on the BOTD!

I like the way the author chose to deal with her PTSD. The idea of some sort of divine revelation is what is making me uncomfortable.
Thank you for the insightful review!
