I personally struggle to read the romance genre because of interactions like you described between Angela and Alex. I like the premise of the book well enough, and I think if I read it, I'd want to know more about the historical couples than I would want to know about Angela. After reading the sample, I decided against picking it up, but I'm glad you still enjoyed it. Thanks for the review!

Great review as always. I know what you mean about toe curling love scenes, they are so hard to get right and will never suit all of the readers. In my last book, a man ‘entered her temple and made his offering’. My toes were so curled I could barely walk.

Omg, thank you for sharing that. That is atrocious. I like when they keep it simple. Just gloss over it if you can't write it well, don't torture me with your awkward euphemisms.

I am a great fan of historical fiction stories. The fact that Ami uses accurate historical facts in the story made the book very fascinating for me to read. Also, the search for the truth behind the missing piece of art was masterfully executed. Thanks for the nice review.

I was a fan of the flashback portions of this book. I found them much more entertaining than the present day story as it was just too predictable for me. I agree with you on the "romance scenes" besides being painful to read I wished they would just stop hooking up and find the painting. Thank you for the review!

Haha, yes absolutely. I love romance novels, and sex scenes done well don't bother me, but that's exactly how I felt. I thought Ami should have given the search for the painting more page space. Thanks for commenting

Great review. Like you, I also researched the figures, dates, and events and was impressed with Ami's commitment to historical accuracy. The sex scenes in this book were so overdone and the author placed too much focus on a sexual relationship instead of allowing the two to build a romantic relationship. In such a short amount of time, the two are thinking about things such as marriage and babies. If not for that, I agree with you that the book overall was a good story. I also rated it 3 stars.
