Personally, I am fascinated by mermaids because they are free. They have the entire ocean to roam in. Their best friends are fishes.
I'm also into deep sea ecology and there are lots of things about the ocean that haven't been explore or discovered yet. Why can't mermaids be real?

Me too, it's a fascinating subject. I love watching documentaries about the deep ocean. More people have been to space than have been to the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Who knows what's down there?

I know, I had no idea there were so many. Most are in Europe, often on fountains - there are some like that at the Rockefeller Center too. Maybe check the website? Thanks for your comment.

Hola, mi amiga! The author tells me about Sirena and Siyokoy in Philippine folklore. I wondered about mermen when I started the book too. Some of the statues and myths feature them, but a lot depict an individual mermaid.

Interesting book. The author combined the myths and a research work on mermaids. I have read many children books on mermaids and their connection with humans. However, this adult book is a nice gift for those interested to unearth mermaid's history. Thanks for this comprehensive review.
