Thank you for the review. I can already tell this book will be an eye opener that not all stars have easy lives. Very sad that her mother was so cruel and that she didn’t really get to know her dad except through his writings. I added to my not interested in reading shelf but I am sure others will enjoy learning from this one.

I enjoyed the opening but hit a bit of a bump when the doctor turned out to be 92. Seems a bit old to still be a practicing psychiatrist, most would have retired much earlier. Still, I found the personalities to be very well developed.

Barbra Streisand: On the Couch by Alma H. Bond, Ph.D. is a fiction book that gives glimpses of the real life of a most influential female superstar in modern history, Barbra Streisand. It's a motivational guide to loving one's self, overcoming life obstacles, and rising to the top regardless of who you are or where you're from.

The lesson is similar to the quote, "Real people aren't perfect and perfect people aren't real." No person is exempted in the diversities of life.

I'm a bit confused because from the blurb, this book is fictional and therefore the author must be taking great liberties into Barbara Streisand's psyche, but you seem to quote it all as if it is non-fiction. Nonetheless, seems very interesting!

I had the exact same thought when I read that! I don't think I would trust a 92 year psychiatrist, despite their experience.

Quite captivating. I must say I was surprised about the the Doctors age of 92.

I found it to be both an easy read and an interesting book about Barbara things I would not have known otherwise.

It's always great to hear about a book that really inspired the reader with its honesty and beauty. This sounds like such an inspiring read and that it has the potential to paint a different picture than the one we always see of Barbara Streisand.

Not a huge fan of Barbra Streisand OR biographies/memoirs, as such. It’s also interesting that this is listed as fiction, it makes it hard to know what’s real and what’s not.

Sounds really interesting but when I read it was fiction I must confess I felt a little dissapointed.
