If you ask me to describe And Then I Met Margaret by Rob White, I would say that it is a book which is in combination of memoir and motivational.
This book is divided in 21 chapters which is ranging from his life in his childhood days which is destined to work in a factory mill, as a college student, school teacher, and eventually as a real estate developer and restaurateur.
Every chapter described a particular situation in his life with a particular guru who taught him an important lesson that fits his situation, and how he used that lesson learnt to put that in practice instead of merely as a head knowledge. While reading this, you will be amazed to find that these gurus are not entirely those people with degrees or who are professionals, but they are certainly those who made you to change the way you see things in life.
I find this book is engaging and every chapter of this book is relevant to my life. It feels like I’m having a deep conversation with the author. This is rarely occur to me. Initially, I was a bit confused when he addresses himself as Bob White instead of Rob White. I flipped to the cover page thrice to make sure that I actually get the name right and thinking that some editing problem might occur. But PATIENCE dear prospective readers! As you continually reading, the author slowly unfolds the story behind it.
What appealed to me the most is when he said in chapter 18: “But, there’s a point where you’re supposed to grow and develop beyond that me-focused world. It’s called maturity. It’s that moment when you understand that if the world is going to work, it must be “thee and me,” not “me, me, me.” My understanding was widened that having ‘all about me’ kind of attitude would not bring me any good. No one wants to buy what you’re selling if they don’t know or can’t see for what purpose it will serve them.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because every of his point is straight forward, for his good writing that managed to glue my attention to this book though how busy my life to find a time to pick a book, and this book in many ways has helped me to change my way of thinking. I would recommend this book to those who wants to transform his life to be someone new and to those who seeks to build or improve his confidence. If you are also someone with “new year, new me” mentality, then this book will be a good read for you.
