I took a peek at the first chapter of this one before coming to read your review, and I have to agree with all that you said here. There’s a voice to his story that isn’t really looking for fame, but almost to just share his experiences with people. This one reminds me of the movie The GodFather with the mob ties and the tight rope walk that is done after dealing with that part of society. Your review is a helpful supplement to the book with details to keep me reading. Thanks for this well done review.

This review tells me a little more than what I gathered so far in reading the Amazon review and the forward, and the first chapter of the book! I am ready to just drop everything scheduled for today, and read all day. Thanks for giving me some entertainment instead of doing my regularly scheduled tasks!

With such a good review, the book must have something. Memoir are usually boring, but they can easily get interesting with a good sense of humour and an entertaining plot. The story is of a boy raised in the streets with gangs all around who becomes an executive. I would read it for the inspirational story it is.

I'm not really into memoirs normally, but this sounds as though it is well-done. I liked that the reviewer states feeling as though she knew the author by the time she was done with the book. Also, the whole climbing up and attaining the "American dream" from literally nothing is appealing. Thanks for the review!

Not usually into memoirs but your review makes it sound so enticing. A true rags to riches story and more. The hardships that Costello had to go through to get where he is today, makes this book inspirational.

What a great review! I'm new to memoirs and have never found interest to read them previously, however, after reading this feedback I'm genuinely interested to read this book. It sounds genuine along with the message of no matter what happens there's always light at the end of the tunnel, so I've no doubt it will be inspirational to read. :D :tiphat: :techie-studyinggray:

Thank you for your fantastic review! I haven't read a lot of memoirs, but your review, and the book description on Amazon have sold me. Can't wait to dig into this one.

Thanks for the review. I am not a fan of memoirs but from your review the book sounds motivational. Especially John's past makes it a book worth reading. Though I might not read this, I definitely recommend this to others who enjoy memoirs.

Based on this, I could tell that there was some determination in that person to be able to get to where he is today. I've kind of always liked the idea of rising up from a terrible background to something better in society. Nice review!

First of all---TWO sets of twins???? That in itself is worth writing a book about.

John's life sounds very unique and interesting but I am not a huge fan of memoirs or reading anything about the mob. That kind of lifestyle is just too dark and dangerous for me to want to read about it. I had knots in my stomach in the first chapter with John sitting at the table at Mario's. Even knowing they wouldn't kill him because it was only the beginning, I was still so nervous for him.

Great review. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. It's great that he added the glossary of characters at the end to give you an update on them.

Sounds like quite a story of working ones way up from meager beginnings! I like that the writing style sounds like it is straight forward yet packed full of exciting anecdotes - adding this to my list!

I appreciate the way the author shares his story with sincerity. Mr. Elder’s words of praise for him just make the book that much more attractive to the reader.

Great review!

The memoir sounds to be beautifully written and very touch, I would appreciate the honour of reading it sometimes. It is also good that you could relate with the author in some way, as though he was a close relative. I find that to be extremely powerful when reading about someone's life - when it can be related to. Thanks for the review.

I'm not a fan of memoirs... that said, this sounds like it could almost be a fictional life that I WOULD be interested in! LOL I picked up my copy to try... :)
