The Hidden City of Chelldrah-ham: Belas Rift by Stephan von Clinkerhoffen relates the adventures of Meg and Stig, also known as Manna, as they try to save the Motherland from the wicked and greedy Anet.
Stig and Meg drive their trike through a rift and find themselves in modern day England. They experience many difficulties and adventures while fulfilling their mission to save the Motherland. To be victorious they must stop Anet from releasing chaos and havoc on the land. As they travel to different sites, they find evidence that other members of their planet have traveled to earth. They must be very resourceful to avoid being shot at or captured. Another challenge is the language. They do not always understand what things are called and try to relate things with elements of their world. Human customs also intrigue them. Stig and Meg cannot understand why humans are always talking into little black boxes!
They meet many humans who help them. Some of these situations are amusing while others are suspenseful. There are many humorous events when Stig and Meg try to blend in among the humans by disguising themselves.
The author presents positive attitudes and morals. Stig is meticulously honest. Whenever he eats someone’s food or uses something he finds in their houses, he pays for it with gold. It was also pleasing to see the beautiful relationship between the two main characters. They treated each other with kindness, understanding and patience.
Anet is presented as the total opposite of Stig and Meg. She is cruel and greedy. Nothing will stop her from reaching her goal. Who will win this battle? Can Stig and Meg resist and overcome such persistent evil?
The only thing I did not like about the book was the subtle propaganda against eating meat and the idea of global warming destroying the earth.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is a very refreshing story that mixes adventure with mystery. Even though I am not a big fan of science fiction, I found this story to be totally fascinating. The author did an excellent job of maintaining interest without detouring into bad language or inappropriate scenes. Throughout the book the reader constantly encounters imaginative ways of seeing our world. This is a very well written and thoroughly enjoyable read. The pictures that are included enhance the story and are also very well done.
Readers who like science fiction will enjoy this book. People who have an interest in science and inventions will read about many new ideas in this story and will find their minds expanding with all the author’s unique inventions and ideas.
