I loved the detailed setting, and agree that the characters are very well developed. I’m glad you enjoyed the novel!SharisseEM wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 23:09 I enjoyed this book a lot. It's kind of like Harry Potter with the graphic content of Game of Thrones so...a mature version of Harry Potter, I guess. The setting is so highly detailed and the characters are highly developed. Overall, a really good read!

While initially I thought oh great another Harry Potter knockoff, I was pleasantly surprised by the plot and pacing of End of the Last Great Kingdom, and found myself hoping to read more in the series. While I thought the ending journey was wrapped up a little too quickly without the detail of the rest of the book, on the whole it was a solid story that didn’t hesitate to incorporate some darker, less pleasant aspects of war and occupation. If you enjoy fantasy this is a good pick up.

I haven’t heard of that series. I’ll have to check it out.

I am a big Game of Thrones fan. I have not read the "End of the Last Kingdom" just yet. But due to the reviews and comments I just read, this might just be my next read.Christina Rose wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:51viewtopic.php?f=143&t=52021I’ve read reviews that compare this novel to Game of Thrones, but I’ve not personally read or watched it. I feel like I should, though. It’s generally my go-to genre for books.CaitlynLynch wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:02 I think the high levels of violence could turn some readers off. That said, a lot of fantasy readers today cut their teeth on George R. R. Martin, who certainly doesn't shy away from the gore. I wonder if Victor Rose took GRRM's work as a baseline?

I like that he was an anti-mage, also (love the term, by the way, I’ve never heard it before). It set him apart from the others.
