It should be present with purpose. You are right. Purposeless sex is not exciting.

I haven't read the book but I'm usually very wary about sexually explicit stories and from the comments, it seems the vote is against the book. I'm of the opinion that self control should be exerted to an extent in such matters, thus a book that promulgates purposeless sexual encounters would certainly be off-putting.

You may want to look into Belle Ami's books. They have been reviewed through this site. I am not familiar with the books myself, but if I remember correctly from the reviews I read, she did a better job with the erotic scenes.

Miriam Molina wrote:I don't think those explicit scenes were needed at all. I was also fearful that each new character introduced was a potential "playmate." The sex became more frequent than even the meals.
The only scene I feel has any relevance is the first erotic scene with Marty. Don't get me wrong, it could have been left out, but it wasn't as out of place as the numerous other erotic scenes.
Great I'll try to read some books of Belle..
I hope it helps!

sounds like scenes of sex are too much to handle, won't go for a copy right now.

They are definitely in excess, while not driving the plot forward. I would recommend against reading this book if senseless erotic scenes bother you. It’s hard to find enjoyment in the remainder of the novel, since it is so often interrupted with these scenes.

Vickie, that is really important to put the clear voice to the world and not controlling normal stories. Great!

I thought that the story was just sex. I also thought it very unlikely that everyone within her social circle was swingers, but didn't know that about one another.

I too felt that the number of sex scenes did take prominence as the story progressed. It almost seemed as if there was a standstill and nothing but her sex life had action until the end.

That’s a good point, especially with as much time as they all spent together.

I think the author has gone overboard. He would have done better to focus more on the plot and less on the protagonist's sex life. This isn't an erotica novel.

Though the woman has a different role in the start. Her dauntless attitude makes the character attractive, but the second half is dubbed with her sexual appeals which makes the book disgusting. Through Excessive sex content the author has talk it away from its scientific genre.
Make your ideals high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you.
