The films are less exciting than the novels, and one might not be interested in reading after watching the movie though I believe most films don't do justice to the original plot from the books. I would always recommend one to read before watching a movie.
I think reading the book ruins the movie (being entertained by it) because it raises your expectations. I think starting from low and rising is good, watch the movies, then read the books for a higher threshold of entertainment.

Julie Ditton wrote:Unfortunately, cutting out a lot of the book is commonplace in movie adaptations. Think about how long it takes to just read a book. If everything was portrayed the movie would be several hours long. There has been a recent trend in making two part movies to help compensate for that problem. Then audiences complain about the cliffhanger and the wait.
Yes, Julie Ditton. I absolutely agree with you on this. However, I think movie makers should also focus more on delivering adaptations which capture the essence of the text and meet the expectations of the audience.
