jenjayfromSA wrote:A good detective story is great, especially on a rainy day. They can cover all periods too, not just a modern day police precinct. A couple of my favourites are the "Cat Who" books by Lilian Jackson Braun in which a retired journalist solves crimes with the aid of his two Siamese cats. The other is the Cadfael series by Ellis Peters, where a Benedictine monk in the 14th century pioneers forensic science his way. Some of today's thrillers are gripping too, especially those coming out of the Scandinavian countries.
This is great. Your decision making was enriched by the detective stories you read I guess :)

Oh yes. In fact I like stories about investigations. There was even a time I wanted to become a detective or an investigator of any sort. One of my favorites is Jonathan Kellerman's (novel) Obsession.

Absolutely, my alter ego has always wanted to be a detective, so any time I read about detective stories, it's just like living my fantasy.

It's strange how I absolutely love any kind of cop or crime show, I've watched them all. But I never read detective stories, they can never hold my attention. Strange, but true. I only read a couple of Agatha Christie's novels but didn't like them too much.

I read Nancy Drew all the time as a child! I absolutely love detective stories. I read some Dan Brown books a few years ago and loved the puzzles that had to be solved in those as well! I think any book that causes me to think up my own ideas of who's behind something are my favorites!

I love detective stories and just like the host of this chat I also grew up with Nancy Drew. For a while, I even wanted to be a detective or a crime scene investigator or CSI. I think that detective stories are like literary puzzles that provide twists and turns in order to keep you in suspense. My favorite detective has to be Mr. Sherlock Holmes because of his wit and intelligence.

Nancy Drew was an amazing series of books! I read those nonstop as a child, and do find that a good detective story is my first choice when selecting a new book! I think they are great reads when executed well and keep me engrossed in the book through its entirety! :D

I love detective stories. My favourite author is actually Agatha Christie. I believe her Hercule Poirot is the best character I have seen

Detective stories are my favourite. I love reading books from crime genere. Though most of the author lack the skills of writing a good detective story, there are some who even now stand out shining.

I do love detective stories, but I think I enjoy the less expected versions where the main character is conducting detective work, but isn't a detective. For example, the Frieda Klein mysteries.

I love reading detective stories. I feel like I'm part of the adventure like, I'm solving the case alongside a detective or a team
