Would You Risk Everything?

Post by sophiemer642 »

In the book, Max is offered a chance of a life time from an old companion, but in order to take advantage of this rare oppurtunity, he risks his future with his fiancee and a good job.

Would you have done it?
Have you ever put everything on the line to pursue something?

No. I'm not willing to lose everything I care about in pursuit of something else. There is nothing in the world that is worth the risk.

After resaerching about the Panama canal, I would say, I follow what Max has done. The Panama Canal Project is every geo-scientist's dream. If his fiancee truely loved him, she would have supperted Max. All Max was asking is Sarah's support.

Yes, I like to think that I would pursue an opportunity if I think it's worth it. Sometimes, it's important to go over and beyond to succeed and win at life.

I wouldn't be able to do something like that without the support of the one I love. If he is willing to support me, then taking advantage of a huge opportunity would be a lot easier.

I got the distinct impression that Max knew deep in his heart that Sarah was not the one for her, despite being engaged to her. I think he also knew that going to Panama and giving up the job with Sarah's job would be the end of their relationship. I would take the chance on something if I knew that the relationship I was in was not the right one for me to be in, but not if it involved leaving my children.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

I wouldnt risk it all. I dont have "the balls" so to speak. Lol. But i do admire people who do. As they say, no guts no glory.
Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be...

I could never give up the love of my life to pursue something. However, putting that aside, if I was given the opportunity along with my love, I definitely would have to go for it. I haven't ever really had that opportunity, though.

It depends upon your priorities. Sometimes, when you get a life changing opportunity , you are ready to get everything else of your life at stake. but I personally feel that your relationship shouldn't be one of those things that you are ready to risk

I doubt I will do what Max did. I am a very sentimental person, and relationships are much too important for me. Like Excitedreads, I don't have "the balls" for such a decision.

Yeah. we need a life support in attaining great things so that if we fall, someone will catch us.

I believe I would and I was on the way to risk everything I had in pursuit of my passion. Some of us wouldn't even consider this question. We just throw ourselves in the madness of obsession with what we do and simply can't even breathe without. Luckily, there were people to stop me from that and show me another way around. Without the support of loved ones I would simply burn myself to the roots of my sanity. You are both very right!

The bigger issue I have with this isn’t that I would risk everything… it is that I should never be put into a situation where that choice exists. If your significant other loves you truly, they would understand that an opportunity like that exists only once and therefore would understand. I took the beginning of that book to mean that things really were not as serious or as true as they could have been if that understanding isn’t present.
