After him, I like Roald Dahl, Louis Sachar, Judy Blume, JK Rowling, and Jerry Spinelli. But it can flip flop depending on the day.

I was brought up on the Beatrix Potter books and, while they're certainly a bit dated now, I'll definitely be reading them to my son in due course. Beautifully illustrated & stories that really fed my imagination as a kid.csimmons032 wrote:I actually find Beatrix Potter to be a very good children's book author, and illustrator. I find her especially impressive because she is both and her original books were self published. My favorite book that I have read of hers so far is Peter Rabbit.
Mrs Tiggy-Winkle was always my favourite
The other childrens authors who stand out for me are Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl & Jean de Brunhoff (of Babar fame).
