"There are two sides to every story..."

Post by Scott »

At least some copies of Gone Girl have the tag line "There are two sides to every story..."

Do you agree?

Do you think the tag line fits the book?

I agree that there are at least two sides to every story. I think the tag line fits the book beautifully.

Do you know of any other books that reflect the concept of there being two side to every story? Do you know of any great excerpts or quotes about the concept? It's a common proverb but I'm not sure of the actual source if there is one.

I agree, and the tag line sure fits the book. There were two sides to this story, and both of them were twisted.

I think the tag line fit the book. However, I think it's a mistake for the author to use this as a tag line. It's almost a little spoiler that things are not as they appear.

I can't really say Nick's side was twisted. He may not have been the most likeable character, but he was a star compared to Amy.

I'm not actually too sure about this. There are two sides that the characters recite to the other characters, but I think that the both of them will admit to the same bare facts, at least to themselves. A lie and the truth about the same story isn't the same thing as two sides to the story, I think.

Well, considering that one of them is a liar that's not really accurate at all. Unless you end the quote with, "and one of them is complete fiction."

I've always heard that there are three sides to every story: his side, her side, and the truth.
But yes, the tagline fits this story so well.

I would say there can be more than two sides of a story.

I somewhat agree with the tagline. Nick was set up. He wasn't the greatest guy. He was not intended to be likable for that reason. However, compared to Amy, he was definitely not twisted.

Also, this was one of those occasions where the movie was a good representation of the book.

I think that a great example of the idea that every story has two sides is The Collector by John Fowles. It's my favourite book and the different perspectives this novel offers is amazing.

I think it's absolutely fitting, regardless of Amy being more in the wrong than Nick. However many people are involved in a story, there are that many sides to it. As a lot of people have said over the years, "Everyone is the hero of their own stories." So of course, everyone is going to have a spin to the story that is unique to them.

i totally agree that there are always two sides of a story, and i personally think that each side is correct. the other person may be wrong when we judge based on our point of view, but they are seeing everything differently because they are seeing it from a different angle. same goes to us. so it is pointless to judge, i think that acceptance is the key

There are actually 3 sides to every story, or else its he said she said. The truth is a story itself. Gone Girl was intense, its scary that someone could lie/ manipulate/ and hurt people so deeply.

I agree with the quote, there are two sides to every story. Everyone has their own perception of how things are or how things should be. It maybe important to us as individuals to judge our own actions and reactions before we judge others.

I definitely agree that the tagline fits this book. The two sides of the story really worked to tell an incredible plot that included mystery and intrigue.
