Was it a miracle?

Post by Jennifer Allsbrook »

In the final battle against Belphegor, Haatim faced off with the demon and no matter what the demon flung at him, Haatim was protected. Would you consider this miraculous, divine intervention, or an example of the "shield of faith" that is described as part of the armor of God? Also, what do you think Abigail meant when she mentioned that Haatim was exhausted after the encounter due to his "Channeling"?

What a tough question. I actually consider both. It is a shield of faith and at the same time, Divine intervention. In the teachings of Roman Catholicism, it teaches the faithfuls to ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find.

I love the idea of shield of faith! He was able to walk through danger without getting harmed because he started to believe again, and the idea that his faith was rewarded is cool.

Personally (and I could be wrong) I thought that somehow Haatim was channeling Arthur. That doesn't make a lot of sense, but that is the first thought that came to my mind.

I thought "channeling" meant Haatim channeling God, or the faith of God, in order to ward off the demon. I would consider the protection as a sort of "shield of faith". Since he was calling out various gods, I believe their combined power protected him from the demon - almost like a shield.

That is really interesting...

I saw it as channeling God through Faith, but I wonder if Arthur is going to make a reappearance at some point.

I agree, that's what went through my mind. I also thought that not everyone is able to channel this way and Haatim is kind of unique with this. It is hinted throughout the book that is very important for him to not lose his faith. Making me think that without his faith, he would not have been protected this way.

Yes this can be considered a miracle! A divine intervention and a Shield of Faith. When God is with you who can be against you?

I consider Haatim’s encounter with Belphegor a divine intervention, no else. Belphegor is one of the hell Princes, an ancient god, it is impossible for an ordinary man to banish such strong demon. Why Divine decided to help Haatim and didn’t help Abigail and others is beyond my understanding. :?
I think that exhaustion from “Channeling” means that in the battle Haatim was like conductor of supernatural energy.

Divine intervention. That was the phrase I was looking for. Maybe there is a reason for this that is explained in the sequel?

Agreed! It wasn't a miracle. It was God giving him the power to fight. He was also protected by the higher power.

I thought the "channeling" Abigail mentioned was referencing to the channeling of angels, which in my mind is the exact opposite of Belphegor's possession of Bret. I didn't read it as a miracle per se, more as a form of divine intervention using Haatim as a vessel to dispel the demon.
