It is hardly too much to say that we all of us occasionally speak of our dearest friends in a manner in which those dearest friends would very little like to hear themselves mentioned; and that we nevertheless expect that our dearest friends shall invariably speak of us as though they were blind to all our faults, but keenly alive to every shade of our virtues.
- Anthony Trollope, Barchester Towers

Resonated with me because it echoed my late mother's inherent Irish wisdom ... "If that one had more to do she's have less to worry about". Irish countrywomen of my mother's generation always considered hard work the answer to most of life's ills or worries ... never mind councelling just roll up your sleeves and get a batch of bread in the oven or a wash on the line.
A world is born again that never dies.

F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great GatsbyYou see I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad thing that happened to me.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville...because truly to enjoy bodily warmth, some small part of you must be cold, for there is no quality in this world that is not what it is merely by contrast.

Pandemonium by Lauren OliverBut...books are so much more. Some of them are webs; you can feel your way along their threads, but just barely, into strange and dark corners. Some of them are balloons bobbing up through the sky: totally self-contained, and unreachable, but beautiful to watch.
And some of them―the best ones―are doors.
