I was always wondering what the deal was with Kurt Vonnegut? Everyone I know loves his books, but I don't see how great he is. I guess I will have to start reading his books again.... any particular one I should start with?

I've only read Slaughterhouse-5 and it was a really great book. His humouros, acidic and sarcastic narrative flow nicely along the crazy happenings in the book.

He is one of my favorite authors. I just really like his sense of humor and outlook on life. If you are unsure what books of his to read, he actually graded his own works. (simple google search) So at least you can see from his perspective which ones he thought were worth reading. I personally loved Cat's Cradle. Also check out "We are what we pretend to be" his first and last works. It is cool to compare the two and see how he has evolved as a writer.

Hahaha I never knew he graded his own works. That's hysterical, yet I'm not surprised.

I don't think you need to read them in order. He is very different and you have to open your mind.

I started with one of his short story collection, Welcome to the Monkey House. The second one I read was Slaughterhouse-Five. From there it was pretty much which ever book by him I could find first. That being said, I completely understand wanting to read the books from the first ones he wrote/published to the most recent to fully appreciate his journey as an author.

Vonnegut is one of those authors I gave up on. I had to read him in high school. Slaughterhouse-Five was the school's choice, and I did try Breakfast of Champions, but I didn't understand that one either. I just find him vulgar.

I don't think you have to necessarily read them in order but I suppose if you want to have a better understanding of the finer points of the plot you should.
