Just do the steps that you've been shown
by everyone you've ever known,
until the dance becomes your very own.
But no matter how close to yours
another's steps have grown,
in the end there is one dance
you'll do alone.

This reminds me of Cat's in The Cradle, Johnny Cash's version touches me the most...anomalocaris wrote:Jackson Browne's For a Dancer, which talks about the death of his wife, and has the most amazing description of life, from birth to death, in a single verse:

A lot of his get to me that way. He always makes me want to sit down and write, because there's a half-told story in every song he writes. I remember hearing somewhere that a friend of his once said that no matter how bad his life got, he would never consider suicide because he knew that Jackson would immediately write a song about him. Kinda sad that Jackson's known enough people who have to have such a collection of songs about them!Fran wrote:We're in agreement on Jackson Browne ... don't really know why but the one that always manages to make me sob is The Pretender
Dougie Maclean always gets to me too, Little Ones Must Walk On is a killer, as is "Let Her Go," which I've never heard him speak of, but on the surface it's clearly about a dying child and the decision not to perpetuate her suffering.
