Ava has an issue with reading. However, she does not speak out. Instead, when her teacher asks her to read loudly, she attacks Tyler and gets sent to the principal’s office. Ava goes home, and her parents are concerned for her. She is frightened of speaking out about her flaws.

When Ava gets in trouble for a second time, she speaks out about her weakness. Her parents take her to a child’s specialist, Dr. Johnson. Together, they embark on a transformative journey of turning Ava’s weaknesses into strengths. What happens next is beyond inspiring!

Beyond fun, this book is full of science and invention. That was one thing I cherished. Additionally, Ava was ready to admit her flaws. This way, her parents were in a position to seek medical help for her. The illustrations in the book are gratifying in that the kids and teachers are distinctive. One child seems blonde, and Ava is a person of color. Tyler suffers the wrath of Ava and starts crying. His emotions are crystal clear in the pictures.

Ava’s parents do not rush to blame their daughter for her impulsive behavior. Having observed her, they know something is amiss, so they’re patient until Ava comes to them with the truth. When Ava begins recording her S.T.E.M. videos, the book becomes more science and thrilling to follow. In one instance, she makes hand sanitizer for her grandma during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most fulfilling aspect is that the book is based on the author’s true story. For more authenticity, Ava includes numerous pictures of her S.T.E.M. experiments among other people. Looking at the images was awe-inspiring!

I had nothing to despise. I rate Ava Discovers Her Inner Genius Using S.T.E.M. by Ava N. Simmons 4 out of 4 stars. There was just one error. The book is professionally edited. I recommend it to special children and those interested in some science activities.

I love the idea of basing a children’s book on the author’s own story. Not only does this sound like great representation for children who may not always see themselves in the books they read, it sounds like such a good lesson. The parents being patient is something many parents can learn from. I would love to see this on more children’s shelves and in schools! Normalize needing assistance with learning and reading!

I would love to read this book to my kids. My daughter loves science. Also, it would be a good lesson about admitting your "flaws" and asking for help. Or maybe just show that "flaws" aren't bad things at all!
