Review of Journaling Power
Journaling Power is a self-discovery and transformational book about the author and how journaling took her on a journey towards health and wholeness. The author educates her audience on the powerful benefits of journaling and how it helps heal and connect the body, mind, and spirit.
Mari L. McCarthy suffered a health crisis which put her life and aspirations to a halt because she couldn't do the things she used to do without stress. All her efforts in consulting different specialists weren't satisfying until she was introduced to therapeutic journaling.
The author encourages and guides her audience to engage in daily pen-to-paper journal writing to improve their lives. It would help them to be more expressive and unblock their creativity. Firstly, readers do not need to have good handwriting or eloquence in English but show interest, and then get a pen and a writing pad. She explains the benefits and what to expect when journaling using her experience as a case study. Journaling helped Mari discover some talents she had but was yet to harness.
Through the author's teachings, I also challenged myself to embark on a business plan that I've been afraid to carry out due to my Inner Critic. The author explained the Inner Critic as the arch-enemy of creativity with destructive thoughts that discourage and talk us down. I like that she gave readers tips on how to silent this Inner Critic and be in charge.
This book is concise but fully packed with powerful pieces of information that are educational and thought-provoking. I also appreciate that the author shared her personal experience of how journaling changed her life. Through journaling and silencing the Inner Critic, the author establishes a successful business by the name, CreateWriteNow.com, where she helps people through journaling. I must also commend the author for sharing the testimonies of others who engaged in journaling and how it changed their lives. These testimonies were highly encouraging and inspiring.
The aspects I enjoyed most in this book are the questionnaire in the title and the journaling exercises at the end of each chapter. They are practical and engaging. These exercises gave me insights into self-discovery and helped me answer some sensitive questions about myself. I related to some of the author's teachings like 'Sleep and Emotional Processing,' and I would try 'Night Notes' before going to bed as the author advises. I also like that each chapter begins with a thought-provoking quote. One such inspiring quote is, "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
Furthermore, Ms.McCarthy also included experiments and analyses by scientists that show and prove that journaling helps people who are suffering from chronic/deadly diseases gain wholeness and recover. And the good thing is that this therapy is cheap, accessible, and also simple. The author was also generous to share some book titles that help and support journaling.
In conclusion, I'd rate Journaling Power four out of four stars because Ms. McCarthy held my attention right from the introductory page to the end of the book. Her writing was easy to understand, which added to my reading enjoyment. The book deserves the perfect rating because I enjoyed every aspect of it, and there was nothing to dislike about it. The editing was exceptional, as I didn't find any typos throughout my read. Therefore, I highly recommend it to people who appreciate self-help, inspiring, and self-discovery books, especially those interested in the therapeutic powers of journaling.
