Review by gabrielletiemi -- We are Voulhire: A New Arriv...
In this World named Cosmos, where we have Kings, magicians, and knights that only have the desire for power and magic, whose intentions are unclear and selfish, we have Galen, a gentle and naive man who lived in the Lands of the Princes, a place devastated by the rulers’ greed, but went to Voulhire to claim his uncle's patrimony. We also have Eldus, a lord who is responsible for helping his people and making their lands flourish, but in his way, he may find secrets he is not ready to know.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first fantasy book of We are Voulhire series. The author uses different perspectives in each chapter, narrating the events from various viewpoints according to the character’s personality and inner thoughts. These aspects make the book even more gripping and hard to put down. The chapters are engaging, and you are always looking for what is going to happen with the characters.
My favorite aspect of this book was the entire world constructed by the author. It’s clear to see that Matthew Tysz did a skilled work creating and imagining this novel. In the beginning, there’s a map that helps the reader to localize and analyze the chapter’s location. Which is also helpful to understand the logistics and the time the characters take to travel from one place to another. In addition to that, there’s also a reference guide to the terms and names of the book. I didn’t use it since the author explains every scene with great detail, but some people might find it useful to learn more about this World.
There’s nothing I disliked in this book. Besides, it seems professionally edited since I found only a few errors that didn’t interrupt my reading. The characters are well-developed and complex. Some of them are mysterious, and others are charismatic. Their personalities seem solid and real, even though this is a fantasy novel. Besides, this book has some twists that caught me off guard, and now I'm curious to read the next volume of the series.
Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It’s a gripping and well-written fantasy novel with a marvelous development. I recommend this volume for readers who enjoy fiction stories with magic, action, suspense, but who also enjoy stories that resemble the Medieval Era. But I don’t recommend it for readers who don’t enjoy descriptive scenes about violent fights and wars. Besides, I found only a few profanities and rare light erotic scenes that might disturb some readers.
