Review by Amaraah -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival unde...
We are Voulhire, A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a piece of science fiction that was filled with fantasy, mystery, magic, science, and sarcasm. It started off narrating a story of an Emperor who had four sons who are not conspiring to kill each other but to overthrow their father and divide his kingdom equally amongst themselves. The emperor had to give each of them one of a small chain of Islands off the Mainland of his empire, he also gave each of his sons a small army and lots of weapons to defend them from invaders. Soon the Princes became at war with each other and there were constant chaos and war in the land of the Princes. The emperor gave them this land to prevent them from fighting but this didn’t work.
As time passed, a war started, fear spread through the land. Amidst all these, there was a strong boy who survived this called Galen Bray. Galen who had to escape from the land of the Princes which was filled with war to Voulhire. Voulhire has many cities, Soulhire (Capital), Virko (Industrial city), Yamonsoul (holy place). Voulhire is reigned by King Wilhelm. Galen was an immigrant who arrived Voulhire by boat, vowing to do right by his new people no matter what it takes.
This was a very short, simple, straightforward story, the story was so easy to understand. The characters in this book were well developed and defined, I must commend the author for a very good cast of characters. I love that the book was written in the first person, each chapter is a narration of a character. There is a constant switch between characters, this helps give the reader a better perspective of each character. I love that the protagonist is an ordinary immigrant who encounters a new reality but is filled with high hopes. There was no form of profane words in this book.
I had no best scene because all scenes were very interesting and superb, there was a dose of mystery, science, sarcasm, and magic in each scene. At first, I found the change of stories a bit confusing but as I dove into the book, the story became more interesting and I am glad I continued to read. Being the first book or installments in the series, I can’t wait to get my hand on the next book in the series.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because to me this was an exceptional novel with an interesting concept. The book was professionally edited with no typographical error, there was no profane words. The story is captivating, interesting, fascinating, and compelling. I recommend this book to people who read science fiction books also anyone who is interested in historical adventures, this is a must-read for them.
