Review by fadjei -- Burn Zones by Jorge P. Newbery
From a very young age, Jorge Newbery was a hard worker. He scored his first job at seven years old, as a newspaper delivery boy, and is now the CEO of American Homeowner Preservation. In Newbery's book Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hand, he narrates his life story. Newbery, a bright entrepreneur, was always finding new ventures to tackle. It seemed that anything which he put his mind to, resulted in being successful. However, he soon encountered a "burn zone" that left him millions of dollars in debt, and in trouble with the law. Newbery navigates through the small failures and the big ones, creating an incredibly inspirational story.
Newbery is an excellent writer and has created a captivating story. While reading this story, I was completely engrossed in what was going to happen next in Newbery's adventures through life. Newbery discusses his great accomplishments, but he isn't afraid to discuss his failures. This book shows how even though no one likes failure, we still learn a great deal from it. Through his failures, Newbery learned the most. Sometimes, Newbery got a little cocky and overextended himself. The lessons from the tough times helped him in becoming a better man.
So often, people are motivated by their self-interest and what they can gain from certain circumstances. However, Newbery always had a desire to help the disenfranchised and people who have been cheated in life. It's refreshing to see someone genuinely care for others, rather than for profits. Newbery is a genuine person who sees the good in everyone. He never judges a book by its cover, and I think that's a valuable lesson others can learn from reading this book.
Most importantly, this book shows the importance of optimism and motivation. Newbery faced so many hardships. Challenges that were so stressful his well-being deteriorated. Yet, he continued to push through and find solutions to his problems. This book can help foster confidence in others in their own situations. Through reading this, I felt a sense of reassurance in my own life. In life, we are going to face obstacles, but that doesn't mean that our life is ruined forever. Sometimes, failure is good because it becomes a teachable moment. Even if we don't realize this at the moment that it is happening.
Overall, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found no spelling errors, and the book looks as though it has been professionally edited. There are instances where profanity is used. The writing was phenomenal and there wasn't a dull moment. I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading success stories, or anyone who is looking for motivation to get through something in their own life. Burn Zones is definitely worth the read.
