Review by Nerea -- Burn Zones by Jorge P. Newbery
Burn Zones is a term that has both literal and figurative meanings. The literal meaning is “riding on a long climb or a section with major crosswinds”. Figuratively Burn Zones can be termed as a point in time where an individual experiences life’s challenges, especially in the business world.
Jorge is a high school dropout who started business at a tender age (7-years) as a hardworking and enthusiastic paperboy. His incredible work ethic helped him to thrive in business, thus elevating him to a record tycoon. Unfortunately, one wrong turn paralyzed everything he had worked for, for years. How did he handle the situation?
Narrated from the author’s perspective in a sincere and conversational tone, Burn Zones by Jorge P. Newbery is an inspiring and educational memoir about Jorge. It highlights Jorge’s gains as well as his failures in life. Readers can learn a lot about how Jorge handled his failures. The failures in his life help the reader to appreciate that life will not always be smooth because we face factors that cause us to stumble and fall. But this doesn’t mean that we will remain on the ground forever. Moreover, embracing failure and dealing with it is essential to regain strong momentum.
The author used simple language that a broad number of audience can understand. The sentence structures are well-organized and balanced. I did not find any grammatical or other editing faults in the book. Remarkably, the book is profanity-free.
I’d say Jorge is a true definition of many youths living in already developed countries. They start their businesses at a young age and end up being moguls.
What I like about Jorge is that he is hardworking, diligent, friendly, and he has smart business strategies. I was impressed when he turned to music and started performing live shows. The step reminds me that you can be anything in life if your mind agrees with what your heart desires. Outstandingly, the support (moral and physical) from his parents and the healthy relationship he had with them contributed a lot to his success.
The author taking the reader step by step through his life journey, with all honesty is commendable. Additionally, there is plenty to learn from the author’s life experience. I have nothing to complain about the book because its skillfully edited, and the narration flow is swift, allowing the reader to read through the contents without stumbling.
With the pros mentioned above, the book deserves a 4 out of 4 stars.
Entrepreneurs and readers who find memoirs inspiring will enjoy reading the book.
