The Adventures of Fiona the Frog by S. Jones is a short children’s picture book about Fiona, a frog who wants to explore the world. Even though Fiona is a frog, she doesn’t want to spend her whole life in the same pond. She dreams of traveling the world and seeing new places. One day, she sets out on a journey to explore a nearby mountain, where she enjoys the surprises she finds!

This is a fun, simple story about Fiona’s adventure. I enjoyed how the author incorporated a little lesson by showing how Fiona felt left out and unsupported when the other animals in the pond didn’t think she should be out exploring because she is a frog. I also enjoyed the fun, fantastical elements the author added while Fiona was exploring the mountain.

Although there were good elements in the book, I thought that the plot could have been more exciting, especially the ending. I expected Fiona to return to the pond and tell the other animals about her adventures. This would have concluded the lesson by showing that the other animals then believed that Fiona could achieve her dreams. However, the book just ends at the end of the day, and the animals who discouraged her are not addressed again.

Finally, I thought that the book appeared to be fairly professional. The drawings were cute and helped me empathize with Fiona. In addition, the writing was fun and appropriate for beginning readers. However, the back cover of the book included multiple grammatical mistakes within the short summary of the book. This was very confusing considering that I didn’t find any issues in the book itself.

Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the story, illustrations, and lesson, but I wish that the ending had provided more closure, and the back cover lacked the professionalism demonstrated by the rest of the book. I would recommend this book to parents of children ages five to nine, though early readers may need some help. This would be great for kids with big dreams who may have faced naysayers.

I love the illustration on the cover—Fiona is a cute frog! That is unfortunate about the back cover. I also find it confusing when a well-edited book has a poorly edited preface or summary. Thank you for a great review.

This book title automatically reminded me of Shrek, of course because of Fiona and the frog on the cover haha. However, I like the fact that the book is good for children who dream big. Also, good and interesting illustrations are always a bonus!

This sounds like such a sweet story for kids to learn from. It does sound like the plot did need some polishing. It's also unfortunate that there were some grammar issues. I believe it's important for children's book to be very polished in the grammar department as it is going to be read by young impressionable readers.

We all need to dream big and do what it takes to achieve our dreams. That's hat I think Fiona did. It encourages me to do the same even if it's a children's book. Beautiful review.
And yes she should have gone back to tell her friends never to be scared of dreaming or pursuing their dreams
