Thanks for the excellent review. Teenage pregnancy was a big deal in the past. A secret to keep hidden. I like thefactthattheauthor included diary excerpts on her feelings at the time she gave up her baby. It is something young women were not allowed to grieve over such an enormous loss.

I'm not sure of the period in time that the author lived as a teenager, but I'm sure it is not too far removed from my own time, and as a man, even I can remember how sensitive a dumbest this was in South Africa, particularly amount at European people. Having the courage to write about your life truthfully, is admirable and can be very inspiring to read. This can also be a good example for young people and also a help for them. This book sounds interesting to read. I enjoyed your review which was both informative and enjoyable to read.

Thank you for the insightful review. I read only the sample of this book and, though I'm not looking to read this kind of story right now, I could empathize with the author. I agree that many people may likewise be able to. I love it when authors add special sections such as diary excerpts. Hearing that this author has done so makes me all the more likely to consider this book in the future.

This book is a memoir on teenage pregnancy, grief and despair and a great deal of having to sacrifice the things you love most. This is a heart wrenching book for sure, and it's definitely going to leave a mark on the reader. Thank you for the review.

I think that I could read this book. I've seen many movie depictions of the secrecy surrounding unwed mothers in the 60's but not read an actual book. Thank you for this review!

Thank you for your touching review. I appreciate your analysis of the juxtaposition of adoption and grief. You are right, grief isn't usually associated with adoption, but on the side of the birth mother, Maxene, I'm sure it was heartbreaking. I would love to read this memoir.
