The Spirit of Want by William H. Coles:
The Spirit of Want by William H. Coles is a fiction book that focuses mainly on Lucy, who is a vicious lawyer, who comes from a rich family though she's adopted.

The author builds for us her personality, she doesn't believe much in family and often felt different and as a result she is bitter and mean to those who love her and as a protagonist, she is faced by challenges in her career.
Lucy is married to Luke Osbourne, who is a surgeon and a friend to Lucy's father and later have a daughter. As Lucy tries to balance her career and marriage life she ends up falling in love with her client, Hower Bain, who is an evangelist facing sexual assault charges against a minor. Lucy ,blinded by her passion towards Hower, loses her license to practice law and follows Hower to Africa.

We are also introduced to Lucy's family, her sister Elizabeth whose personality is the complete opposite to Lucy's. Her step-mother Agnes and her father AJ MacMiel and as a typical rich family the author highlights the false bonds and pretence displayed.
The author expresses Elizabeth's desire to have kids of her own and her desire is temporarily fulfilled when she has to take care of Jennifer, Lucy's daughter, after she was abandoned by Lucy.

Coles demonstrates the spirit of want on all characters, Lucy wants a place where she feels she belongs, how Luke wants true love in his life, how Elizabeth wants her own children and family, how AJ MacMiel and Hower Vain want power, how Agnes wants her freedom from a suffocating marriage.

The author focuses on Lucy and revolves around family drama, politics and legal, love and passion and a bit of religion.I love that the author does not sugar coat all these experiences and he demonstrates it to us in the raw form. Forget Romeo and Juliet, the author shows the aspect of relationships, from young and growing love to the gruesome break ups leading to divorce.

The Spirit of Want is a nice book for an adult audience though at some point while reading I lost flow but just in the beginning as the author is building for us the story but it is really interesting and creates a real illusion to the reader such a great skill by the author. The book is well edited and captivating, hence I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
