Hank's experience of the German occupation during WWII in Holland sounds like an eye-opener to what it would have been like. Hank's adventures and trying different jobs while in America finally led him to his dream of flying (but without a license?) This memoir sounds like it would be an interesting one to read.

While I enjoy memoirs, I find WWII stories can be a bit too much for me at times. Great review!

This seems like a great read for those interested in WWII. I’m not very into this era, so I’ll probably pass. Great review!

It seems an interesting story about the memory of Hank Gillebaard, born in the United States, but raised in Holland, who experienced the tribulations of the German invasion during World War II.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting retelling of a man who lived in Amsterdam during the early years of WWII before traveling to America to join the military and fight the Nazis. It seems like it might be worth a second look. Well done.

It seems like the author has done a commendable job of capturing and portraying the themes of this book. Moreover, the themes here are inherently inspiring and engaging. Those who love a memoir would definitely enjoy Hank's story. Thank you for the amazing review.

I am intrigued as the book is set in Nazi occupied Holland. I wanted to know more about that period and conditions that prevailed back then. The character of Hank seems well-developed. Congrats on BOTD!

Thank you for a commendable and thorough review. Private Lucky reads a bit like the movie 'catch me if you can.' Very engrossing for a reader who enjoys historical fictions, memoirs and the sort of I can do what I put my head to attitude displayed by the protagonist. This is one book that I will certainly enjoy.

I like this memoir because of the perseverance and persistence of Hank. Despite not knowing English, he didn't let him from pursuing the American dream. Thanks for the review.

When people have strong opinions (either way) about a book, my ears always perk up. For better or worse, I find it fascinating when one story can cause such strong feelings. Just in reading through the reviews of this book, I’m thinking I need to add this one to my list 😉
