Sigfried’s Smelly Socks! is a children’s book written by Len Foley. It is a short hilarious book with colourful square pages. The text, pictures, cover design, and internal design were all done by the author, Len Foley.
The book is about Sigfried, the funny looking character on the cover page, who made several attempts to locate the source of a disturbing smell. Eventually, he did not only succeed at locating the source, he also found a solution to the smell problem, though a very silly one.
Sigfried’s Smelly Socks! is easy and interesting to read. It is also a very attractive book. Each page, from the cover page to the last page, has at least one illustration and a well-coloured background. Also, the text is presented in a beautiful and dynamic way.
The only thing I don’t like in this book is the use of the slang ‘kraut’. However, I like a lot of things about this book. I like the fact that it is interesting and filled with humor; I giggled all through as I read from cover to cover. I like the concept used by Len in this book. Also, the idea of mixing cartoon drawings and pictures is quite amazing. Though part of the suspense in this book is killed by the book title, the ending is out of the blue. I also like the inclusion of the tiny fly that appeared twice in this book, this, I also found amusing.
In the course of reading Sigfried’s Smelly Socks! I found few minor errors; nonetheless, I still rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This is because the errors didn’t affect its readability, neither did it affect the amusement I got from it. I recommend Sigfried’s Smelly Socks! to every child and to adults, who, like Jennifer Mundy, will read it to kids.
