First, I have just got to say that I absolutely like the book cover of Blind Eye by F. Lynn Godfriaux. It not only matches the story of the photojournalist and protagonist, Mattie Taylor, but it also is so “eye-appealing”!
Sisters, Mattie and Angela, are joint heirs to their family’s fortune. What lengths would someone go to acquiring this great fortune? When Angela shows up at their parent’s funeral with a stranger, Mattie and her husband, Jeremiah, are suspicious and question Angela. She not only defends this stranger, but she ends up eloping with him.
Things get really complicated and wild for Mattie after she innocently takes pictures of people at a ballgame. Life will not be the same for her, as she seems to be the target of someone and runs for her life. Angela is also in danger, and there is no way to help her.
I best liked that there was a lot of action that took place all through the book, and all the while I was left wondering who was trying to kill the sisters. The author wrote in a very descriptive way of the scenes, making it feel like I was there. I liked how Mattie had a sense of humor even in the worst situations and even when she got physically hurt, she thought funny things. There were several other characters that were developed well, and yet, I was not totally sure which characters could be fully trusted. I found myself guessing who was behind all the happenings. Even when one character was clearly the guilty one, I was left to think that there might be others working with the one!
I least liked the few graphic scenes of the shootings that described the bloody victims. There was also a strange scene that did not really happen, but Mattie described it as if it were real. This confused me, and I didn’t know why that was included in the story. But other than those things, I liked the book. I was satisfied with the ending, as it had some feeling of closure. Yet, there was a cliffhanger, making me think that there will be a sequel to this book.
I enjoyed reading this web of deception, danger, greed, and mystery. I rate Blind Eye a 4 out of 4 stars because of the plot, mystery, action, and good character development. It was also edited extremely well. I only found one mistake of using “his” instead of “he” in the whole book.
People who like to read books with a lot of action, mystery, and danger would enjoy reading this book. This book would probably not appeal to children or be appropriate for them, as it has some foul language and some graphic scenes.
