Isaiah wrote about things that were going to happen in the future. He wrote about a new branch growing from a tree stump called the root of Jesse. The new branch meant that a new king would come. Author Pamela Nelson retells many stories from the Bible in her children’s book titled Creation to Christmas Around the Jesse Tree.
First, God created the Earth, the sun, and the moon. Next, Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. Later, there was a great flood. Later still, Moses went to the top of the mountain to talk to God. Each moment was leading to the day that would change the world forever.
This is a children’s book that is meant for families with strong Christian values. I had never heard of the Jesse Tree before reading this book. I was compelled to do a bit of research. This book encourages families to read during the season of Advent. There is a Biblical story for each day. The family is welcomed to create an ornament based upon each day’s story. The family will have twenty-five ornaments to hang on their Jesse Tree for Christmas time. Children ages five to eight would enjoy listening to an adult as they read this book to them. Young readers would also enjoy creating ornaments for their tree.
This book is skillfully written, organized, and edited. The story is told with simple and understandable language. This makes the Biblical stories easy for young minds to understand. There is not one grammar error to be found. The story comfortably flows from one scene to the next making it pleasant to read, and it is sure to inspire young imaginations.
Illustrations are a vital part of any children’s book. The illustrations breathe life into each Biblical story featured in this book. Each picture is beautifully colored and very well executed.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book is beautifully illustrated. The pictures will engage and delight young readers. Families with strong Christian values will enjoy reading this book together.
