Such a constructive and detailed assessment of the book. I get my "quotable quotes" from Pinterest, so I had to smile at the comment :) I agree that biographical sketches would add value to the book because it will give more context for the statements. (We shouldn't underestimate the dangers of quoting someone out of context.) Loved the quote from Lincoln, but that passage from Invictus is one of my all-time favorites.

You must have joined declamation contests, too!

Do you know that Henley wrote Invictus in his hospital bed while being treated for tuberculosis of the bone. One of his legs had to be amputated. The poem was untitled when first published. The title Invictus was given by an editor in a much later publication. Invictus is Latin for unconquered. The poem has inspired many, both heroes and heels alike.

See? That's exactly why biographical sketches are important. The story behind the story (or the poem, quote, etc.) is more moving. I didn't know this story, but now that I do, it makes me appreciate Invictus even more.

Thanks for the detailed review. I agree with you, if it has already taken three years to produce the book, what is another few months to get it right? It does sound like a worthwhile goal, and you make some fantastic editorial suggestions!

Hello, Kat Berg! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really hope DAVita achieves its goal for a peaceful and green world. As one of the quotes mentioned, "There is no plan B."

The book’s purpose is to “inspire current and future generations to learn from the wisest and bravest souls that walked this earth.”
This could've been the best goal to achieve, if growing of Marijuana is not mentioned.

So sad about the drawbacks you mentioned, especially the risk of plagiarism.

This is such a majestic review. Congratulations!

I really enjoyed reading your review! You really explained everything about this book well. I’m glad you also mentioned the caution for kids regarding certain substances. Great job!

Sounds like this book could have spent some quality time with an editor!

For the record...you can't get high off of hemp. I know more than a few people who have tried

I've never tried. But one of the messages in the book says that you need to smoke a telephone-pole-long roll of cannabis to get high. This is from one of those who supports the legalized growing of the useful plant.

Thanks for reading and commenting, CommMayo!

I'm pro a book that compiles words of wisdom in which you can immerse every time you need an escape of the world around us without plagiarism. Too bad this book botches this goal. Perhaps after another round of editing, it gets better. Gracias por la detallada reseña, Miriam! :)

When you mentioned that much of the material was sourced from Google and Facebook, I bristled a little bit. Many people who create content online tend to have their work stolen this way, and the only defense the culprit can offer, much of the time, is "I just found it on the internet! Don't put it there if you don't want it stolen! Do I have to credit every single thing I get from Google??" (Answer: Yes. Obviously.) Let's hope the author of this book does not share this attitude!

As for the book itself, I agree with some others that it doesn't seem to be for me. But you've provided an excellent source of information about it. Great review!
