V for Vendetta by Alan Moore

Post by Gravy »

Illustrated by David Lloyd.

The story follows V as he manipulates various elements to save a dystopian England, not so very far in the future (okay, "the future" being the 1990's :shifty: ), from it's worst enemy: itself.

Without using the normal comic book fair of sound effects, this graphic novel relies more on the story and dialogue, and even descriptions such as you'd expect to find in a "regular" book. I loved this aspect very much.

Here's one such example that happens very early on:Image

I actually just love the whole thing.

I love when V argues with Justice. I love when Evey fights with herself about whether or not to unmask V. I love when Evey and V are on the roof, in the rain. And I love everything about Valerie Page. There's no end to how much I love this book.

Thank you for sharing! After reading this page, I realized that even thought I've heard of V is for Vendetta, I never really knew what it was about. Sounds like a very interesting read. Maybe one day, I'll check it! :) I'm glad that you really enjoyed it!

I remember reading somewhere that this graphic novel really was a huge leap forwards for letterers. Mainly because it was so dialog heavy it created different ways to convey tone through text. See how the squiggly speech bubbles to convey that V was preforming a soliloquy? No one really did that before then, then for actual dialog you see the traditional square with tail dialog box, and for narration a box without a speech tail. It's kind of cool to look at

I loved that it was so different. It felt more like reading a standard book, than a graphic novel.
I also loved V, and all his interactions with Evey.

I seriously love this book

I love V for Vendetta! It's been awhile since I've read it so my memory is little rusty, but it certainly isn't your standard short comic book! The book has much more depth than the movie, in my opinion.

I've read V for Vendetta and I never really understood all the hype around it, personally I think it was just an okay graphic novel.
I've never watched the movie though, so maybe the hype comes from the movie? :P

I think it's earned it's hype, between changing the way graphic novels were written, and the emotions a single panel in the novel can evoke. I'll almost definitely reread it sometime.

But it's not for everyone :)

Oh I didn't know some of the hype was about the structure of the novel and I think Watchmen evoked more emotion in me :P but... I think I should give V for Vendetta another try and reread it. Maybe this time I'll like it as much as everyone else does. :P

I need to add this to my reading list (to buy). I adore the movie, and I'm certain the books are going to be wayyyyy more in depth than the movie was. Dang it. Now I'm super excited to get the books!!

There were a lot of different things that went on with dialogue in this comic. To take this in a slightly different direction, I felt like this was a huge step forward in how Moore approached dialogue. The series started with the Stan Lee bombastic wordy narration, and then the narrator just falls away. By the time Moore wrote Watchmen, he had discarded omniscient narration altogether.

I must atmit that i havent finished reading it. But i loved the way the artistic intentions was communicated strongly through both writing and the art it absorbed me and it gives a more enlightened approach to the reader of the book.

I loved it, and thought the movie adaptation was pretty good too.
