I've read other historical books where they include descriptions of the lives of pilots or how planes were back then but nothing gave as much detail as this. I guess this book really opened my eyes to how different things were back then and how much we've advanced. Overall I learnt a lot from this book, one of reasons why I liked it. :)

Military plays a very important role in our society, and this book made me realize just how much. I loved it and it had me thinking about it for days.

Don't be afraid to fail, at least you try.

Maybe a few things were new to me from the book. I will definitely give a shot to the documentary.

I learned a lot about the operation of planes and just the condition veterans are in, doing such dangerous tasks every day scared if they'll talk to the loved ones again.

One thing I learned was the incredible number of planes that did not make it home after a mission, and the vast number of lives that were lost being shot down. Also, finding out that the reason for this was poor backup and cover for the bombers. This was eventually solved with newer craft that were better equipped to defend the bombers and their crews. I was awestruck to realize the bravery and determination of the men to go back into battle knowing they may be shot down and never return home.

The book inspired me. It was filmed inside the bomber while on a real mission, and it really made everything he had written in the book come alive. It makes sense that it would be since the original crew would not only know each other well, but would know the ins-and-outs of the plane itself. When a new person steps in, it could really mess up the flow and essentially risk everyone's life.

Such an interesting topic. I got to learn much more about generational history and how war has shaped the events occurring today, whether politically motivated or otherwise. Shot Down acts as a remarkable contribution to the overall historical data of the U.S. air war in Europe.
