I actually read this book a while ago for a book review, and I absolutely enjoyed it! I felt I learned a lot during reading about the conditions the pilots were in while being in war. Also, while reading, and thinking about the book afterwards, helped me to remember the people that risked their lives to try to make the world a better place. It was done with such bravery that I know I don't have myself. I have such high respect for those who are brave enough.

Reading the letters and journal entries were my favorite parts of this book. It felt more personal that just a person telling a story and I looked forward to each one.

Just reading about the people who died and who were maltreated were the worst parts of the book for me. However, this is history and obviously should be spoken about so we don't forget. Other than that, there are no moments in the book that were my least favorite.

Highly recommended to those who want to learn more about the conditions for WWII and remember those who so bravely fought. A definite 4/4 star book! Thank you Steve Synder for doing the research and sharing what you discovered about your dad, his crew, and everything they did to protect those in need.

This sounds like it's right up my alley. Haven't read it yet! I just finished another book set during WWII (review coming soon) and loved it.

Looking forward to reading this as well. Picked up the Kindle book for this specific reason. Even though I'm still new, I'm enjoying a lot of the features here. Hopefully I can get it read quickly and be able to contribute to the discussions. I keep finding myself committing to new books with timelines!

Welcome to OBC! It's such a great place for avid readers. New books with timelines...not the worst problem to have sometimes as a reader. Can't wait to hear what you think about this great book!

Hi Steve! (waves)
Thanks for writing your story, thanks for your service, and thanks for the tip about the photos! Most of us probably downloaded the ebook, but now I'm thinking I'll have to see if my local library has the hardcover just so I can check out the rest of the photos you included.

I really enjoyed reading this book as it talks about the people who tried their best to make the world we have now a better place to live in and how they sacrificed their lives for their loved ones.

This book is too beautiful to read, it is breathtaking and heartbreaking. It has its own 'touch' in it that makes it more interesting than the any other books about wars. This is a remarkable piece of work that should truly inspire everyone. This book makes me like as if I was part of the story, I can feel that the characters are so alive. There are such vivid details that'll just make you wonder "how did it all happened?" "Where did the author got all this piece together?"

I would definitely recommend this book to others who haven't read it yet. This book is golden and ugh, too beautiful and heartbreaking but still these people are so brave that they deserve a lot better. 4/4 star!!!!

Shelle, my smaller library had a copy, if mine did yours should hopefully have it! There are so many pictures and they are interesting to look at.

I'll admit war books are not my go to genre, so this book took a little longer for me than it probably did for most of you because it was hard for me to stay focused. I did enjoy reading about and learning the more day to day things the soldiers dealt with and of course the crash and the aftermath of that was very nerve wracking and made it a page turner at that point. It was a reminder of the tragedies and fear wars bring to service men and women's families and how amazing it is when someone can make it home safe because of all the things that can happen.

I got the e-book version and can't wait to get into it. Non-fiction is a hard genre for me so I'm a little apprehensive. Let's see if I can plough through this one. :)
