How to publish a book on goodreads?

Before posting in this marketing forum, please try to read 10 Step Plan to Promote Your Book: Online Book Marketing on Any Budget. This forum is mainly for followup questions and discussion after reading that book. This forum does indeed allow for much broader discussion of marketing and promotion than just that book, but it's good for everyone to be on the same page about the basics.

Please note, this forum is not for self-promotional plugs. It's for discussing how to promote your book or other writing.

Publishing a book on Goodreads involves several steps, including creating an author account, adding your book's information, and promoting it to readers. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Create a Goodreads Author Account:

Sign up for one if you don't already have a Goodreads account. You can do this by going to the Goodreads website goodreads and clicking on "Sign up" in the upper right corner. Follow the prompts to create your account.
Claim Your Author Profile:

After creating a Goodreads account, you need to claim your author profile. Search for your name or book on Goodreads. If you find your book listed but not connected to an author profile, you can claim it as yours by clicking on "Is this you? Let us know!" and following the instructions.
Add Your Book:

Once you have claimed your author profile, you can add your book. To do this, go to your author dashboard by clicking on your profile picture in the upper right corner and selecting "Author Dashboard."
Click the "Add a Book" button in the Author Dashboard.
Fill out the book's information, including the title, ISBN (if applicable), publication date, and book cover image. Be as detailed as possible in the book description, tags, and genre to make it easier for readers to find your book.
Set Up Your Author Page:

Customize your author page by adding a profile picture, biography, and links to your website and social media profiles. This helps readers learn more about you as an author.
Promote Your Book:

To get your book noticed by readers, you can:
Share updates and engage with readers through blog posts or status updates on Goodreads.
Connect with readers by participating in groups or discussions related to your book's genre or topic.
Host giveaways to generate interest and reviews for your book.
Encourage your existing readers to review your book on Goodreads.
Add your book to relevant lists, such as "Best Books of [Year]" or "Books Set in [Location]."
Engage with Readers:

Respond to reader reviews and messages professionally and politely. Engaging with readers can help build a fanbase and generate more interest in your books.
Consider Advertising:

Goodreads offers advertising options for authors. You can use these tools to promote your book to a larger audience. Check the Goodreads Author Program for more information on advertising options.
Monitor Your Author Dashboard:

Keep an eye on your author dashboard for insights into your book's performance, including the number of people adding your book to their "to-read" shelves and the number of ratings and reviews.
Continue Promoting Your Book:

Book promotion is an ongoing process. Continue to engage with readers, participate in discussions, and explore other marketing opportunities to keep your book visible on Goodreads.
Remember that building a presence and getting noticed on Goodreads may take time, especially if you're a new author. Be patient and consistent in connecting with readers and promoting your book effectively on the platform.
