One can have many reasons for picking a favorite song or artist: a great singing voice, a great beat, mastery of an instrument, and - my favorite - great lyrics.

Which bands or artists' lyrics consistently hit you emotionally - make you cry, make you think, or make you want to dance? Feel free to post a favorite line or verse to prove your point!

I don't have a favorite, I might have a collection of favorites who are then further divided up into genre but not just one. There is too much of one thing to just pick one.

Evanescence, Fleetwood Mac and the Dixie Chicks. I don't know who the songwriters are but the lyrics for each of those bands' music always move me.

I like a lot of music of all different genres but when I want a good song that sticks with me and makes me think I always turn to Jewel.
I love her songs (especially her first album, Pieces of You) because they all tell stories. They aren't written to be catchy or 'musical' she lets her voice do that. All of her songs mean something and I appreciate that.
