How Do I Love Thee

How Do I Love Thee
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Thank you for that ... I love that poem.
It always reminds me of Wuthering Heights for some reason.

I also love this poem! And lots of people misattribute it to Shakespeare, which is always annoying. The poet is female! It's from Sonnets from the Portuguese, number 43.

That is one of my favorite poems of all time, and I absolutely adore Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and I think I prefer her to Robert Browning. She writes about more matters of the heart and soul.

This poem describes how you love everything in your sorrundings, everything that you see, you feel...that makes you feel so blessed beyond everything.

Love this poem. I feel like I read it awhile back, but for some reason can't remember. :eusa-think: :eusa-think: :eusa-think:
