what's your idea of a "good song"?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

I think what makes a songs good are the words. What message is being brought forward, and how it speaks to you.

I agree! Songs that have empty and meaningless lyrics are terrible. But even if a song has great lyrics but has a horrible sound, it is equally terrible. There needs to be a balance of great lyrics and background music to make a truly great song.

A good song must have good lyrics expressed in a very relatable tune

My idea of a good song is one that is slow and has meaningful lyrics.

Good choice of words, nice wordplay and rhyming. Delivery too matters.

A good song is one that evokes emotion within you, whether good or bad. The song makes you feel some way or brings up memories when you hear it. A good beat can also make a good song.

I've been having this conflict with myself for a while about what kind of songs would be generally accepted to listen to.

I personally think what makes a good song is how well it speaks to the listener's soul. However, this idea could also be hinged on my love for soul music. So I'm asking for everyone's opinion on this.

What do you think meets the required standard for a good song? And what are those standards if any?
Lol, you question is a serious one. However, your answer is also a serious answer lol. I think a good song is a good song  but it must ha e meaningful lyrics and beautiful rhythm. Anyway that’s for me lol

A good song is any song that resonates with me at that moment and also a song that will leave a certain impression on me.

A good song is one that gives a clear message. A message that resonates with people and uplifts them.

I like to relate to the lyrics of a song. Songs that resonated in that chapter of my life or songs that helped me through a tough time. The genre of the music doesn't matter if it inspires you!

A good song promotes a good message for success, inspiration and moral values.

If a sound reaches my soul and makes me feel deeply (butterflies, the urge to cry, tingles, goosebumps) IT’S A GOOD SONG. Anything relatable and realistic to what you are going through or experiment yourself is always the best type of music. If you’re depressed, sad songs are the best. If you’re outgoing or hype, hip hop or almost any upbeat songs are the best. If you’re religious, gospel and songs about God will be the best for you. And some people like ALL music like me. I can find a way to relate to almost anything. Whether it be the beat, the lyrics, the vibe, the tone, the voice of the singer, etc. There really can be good in mostly all music.

I don't think there's a general definition for a good song. No matter how good you think it may be, someone definitely won't enjoy it as much. To me, any song you enjoy is a good song

I think that what really matters in music is emotion. When you really feel what the author wanted to say.
