What's your favourite song with the best lyrics?

Post by Nash_Jay »

Even though today musicians often ignore this fact, lyrical content is just as important as the music or the singer.. Even though I have quiet a few favourite lyrics, Evanescence's My Heart Is Broken sounds pretty creative & artistic to me. Everytime I listen to it I feel like the song has magic hidden in its words!!!!! Comment your own favourite lyrics :-)

Lyrics by Amy Lee, Zach Williams, Terry Balsamo, Timothy Todd Mccord

I will wander 'til the end of time, torn away from you
I pull away to face the pain
I close my eyes and drift away
Over the fear that I will never find
A way to heal my soul
And I will wander 'til the end of time
Torn away from you
My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us from sorrow's hold
Or from my hard heart
I can't go on living this way
And I can't go back the way I came
Shamed of this fear that I will never find
A way to heal my soul
And I will wander 'til the end of time
Half a life without you
My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us, change, open your eyes to the light
I denied it all so long, oh so long
Say goodbye, goodbye
My heart is broken
Release me, I can't hold on
Deliver us, my heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us, my heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us from sorrow's hold

Year of the cat

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat

She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat

While she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat

Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

Year of the cat

Vincent

By Don McLean

(Dedicated by McLean to the artist, Vincent Van Gogh)

Starry starry night
Paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know
The darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land.

And now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that Starry Starry night,
You took your life
As lovers often do;
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant
For one as beautiful as you.

Starry starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken
On the virgin snow.

And now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity and
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
They're not
List'ning still
Perhaps they never will.

Baby, don't let me down
Got a lot goin' on right now
And I need you to hold me (I need you to hold me)
Teamwork make the dream work
I want a best friend, you want a yes man
Lean on me like a kickstand
Problems come? You got a hit man
The rent man and the trick man
Bags on shoulder, channel on loafer
Yeah, sex on sofa, go y'all passport for both us
That's no fuss, I got that you got it, my pocket yo pocket
I cop it, you rock it
No hater can stop it
King Push with the king flow
Janine, baby, that's me and you
What's a love affair with a couple tears
When yo number squares spellin' bingo?
Baby, don't let me down, got a lot goin' on right now
And I need you to hold me (I need you to hold me)
Baby don't let me down got a lot goin' on right now
And I need you beside me (need you beside me)
And when it gets cold and I'm feelin' kinda lonely
I'm hopin' that you're gonna put cover on me
When it gets cold and I'm feelin' kinda lonely
I'm hopin' that you're gonna put a cover on me
Will you catch my tears before they hit the ground (the ground)
Oh baby if I open my mouth
And let my darkest memories come out
I need you to stick around (need you to stick around)
And when it gets cold and I'm feelin' kinda lonely
I'm hopin' that you're gonna put cover on me
When it gets cold and I'm feelin' kinda lonely
I'm hopin' that you're gonna put a cover on me
I was searchin' for the fame and fortune, tryna build a future
Touring season was yo pain and torture, see how the game'll do ya
Yuh, I left ya with the vultures
Yo mother was poisonous, them b**ches was flyin'
Money comin', engines runnin'
From in the clouds I couldn't hear you cryin'
See, that's my fault and I can take that
The time lost we couldn't make that
No ? no ? can replace that
See, what you told me, I prolly misplaced that sh*t with a rollie
Well, that's the old me
I want the old you, now come and hold me
Oh, give me somethin' good to feel
Touch me so I know it's real
Make it so I won't forget
And take me far from my regret
Oh, give me something good to feel
Touch me so I know it's real
Never want to ask for help
But I'm askin' this time
Baby, don't let me down, got a lot goin' on right now
And I need you to hold me
Baby, don't let me down, got a lot goin' on right now
And I need you beside me

Learning a song without lyrics is sometimes difficult and time consuming if the lyrics is also not clear to easily understand

God All by Yourself by Eben

This is a song that gives me the opportunity to bless and worship God.
It's very simple to learn
The lyrics...
Mighty God I Bless your name
Holy one, I worship you
For you are God all by yourself
You are God all by yourself
Age to age, You're still the same
All creation,
Will shout your name
For you are God all by yourself
You are God all by yourself
Chorus ......
For who you are, I bless your name
For who you are I worship you
You are God all by yourself

'Where Have all the Flowers Gone' - by Pete Seeger, based on Russian folksong

'Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls picked them everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Young men picked them, everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young men gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone to be soldiers everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing?
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Gone to flowers every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Simple but profound, and a haunting, lovely melody, too.
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

How to Save a Life
By: The Fray

Boy was I moved just by listening to this song. โคโค

Step one, you say we need to talk
He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left, and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And I pray to God he hears you
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life

Lonely"

Lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely,
I have nobody for my own.
I'm so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely.
I have nobody for my own.
I'm so lonely.

Yo, this one here goes out to all my players out there, man, ya know,
That got that one good girl who's always been there, man, like took all the bullshit.
Then one day she can't take it no more and decide to leave.

I woke up in the middle of the night
And I noticed my girl wasn't by my side.
Coulda sworn I was dreaming, for her I was feening.
So I had to take a little ride.
Back tracking over these few years,
Tryna figure out what I do to make it go bad.
'Cause ever since my girl left me my whole life came crashing and...

I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, girl).
I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, girl).

Can't believe I had a girl like you
And I just let you walk right outta my life.
After all I put you through
You still stuck around and stayed by my side.
What really hurt me is I broke your heart.
Baby, you were a good girl and I had no right.
I really wanna make things right
'Cause without you in my life, girl,...

I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, girl).
I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, baby).

Been all about the world,
Ain't never met a girl
That can take the things that you been through.
Never thought the day would come
Where you would get up and run,
And I would be out chasing you.

'Cause ain't nowhere in the globe I'd rather be,
Ain't no one in the globe I'd rather see
Than the girl of my dreams that made me be
So happy but now so lonely.

So lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own).
I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely).
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, girl).

Never thought that I'd be alone (be alone).
I didn't think you'd be gone this long (gone so long).
I just want you to call my phone.
So, stop playing, girl, and come on home (come on home).
Baby girl, I didn't mean to shout (no).
I want me and you to work it out (work it out).
I never wished I'd ever hurt my baby (hurt my baby).
And it's driving me crazy 'cause...

I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (have nobody)
For my own (for my own).
I'm so lonely (so lonely),
I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely),
I have nobody (I have nobody)
For my own (to call my own, girl).

Lonely, so lonely,
So lonely (so lonely),
Mr. Lonely, so lonely,
So lonely, so lonely (so lonely),
So lonely, so lonely (so lonely),
Mr. Lonely.

Growing Pains
-by D&E (Super Junior)

(English Translation)
This cold night street
These heartbreaking footsteps
Some day, itโ€™ll all pass
Memories of us crazily in love
It will slowly flow down
Forgotten with time
(Forgotten)

I tried going into your closed heart
But in this empty room
I discovered ourselves already broken
So it hurts

But I hope you arenโ€™t hurting as much as me
I hope for this every day, countlessly
I hope you wonโ€™t remember as much as I do
I hope youโ€™re better than me
Oh today and tomorrow

My thoughts that were filled with you
Even those thoughts push me away as if theyโ€™re irritated
I chase after the clock hands, chase after time
But there, I discovered you leaving
Iโ€™m in a rush and youโ€™re in a hurry to leave
Like an express train, my footsteps are rushed every day
(Surrendered to the memories)
Now weโ€™re like an old and worn notebook filled with scribbles

I tried going into my lost memories
But now I canโ€™t see you
I discovered ourselves already disappeared
So it hurts (it hurts so much)

But I hope you arenโ€™t hurting as much as me
I hope for this every day, countlessly
I hope you wonโ€™t remember as much as I do
I hope youโ€™re better than me

Oh today and tomorrow

One Two Three Four Five (I put it all down today)
I guess Iโ€™m forgetting (I canโ€™t really see you)
Five Four Three Two One, I think time is up

But I hope you arenโ€™t hurting as much as me
I hope for this every day, countlessly
I hope you wonโ€™t remember as much as I do
I hope youโ€™re better than me

Oh today and tomorrow

It is by no means my favourite but the most memorable lyric I've heard was:

"This ship is sinking, I'm thinking I'm done for
I watch as the sails disappear underwater
'Cause I'm no captain yet"

- from Stay Awake by All Time Low.

I just loved the metaphor and could not get over the fact that so many of the words in that small verse rhymed with each other. As a 14 year-old, I was easily impressed ha ha!

Deftones: Knife Party

My knife it's sharp and chrome
Come see inside my bones
All of the fiends are on the block
I'm the new king
I take the queen
See here we are all anemic
In here anemic and sweet, so
Go get your knife, go get your knife
And come in
So go get your knife, go get your knife
And lay down
Go get your knife, go get your knife
Now kiss me
Ooh, I can float here forever
In this room
we can't touch the floor
in here
We're all anemic
In here anemic and sweet so
Go get your knife, go get your knife
And come in
Go get your knife, go get your knife
And lay down
Go get your knife, go get your knife
And kiss me
I could float here forever

I like this song too! And sometimes I relate to it too
"All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost"
