Gimmicks for lyrics?

I'm a great lover of real music, you know, the kind of music that speaks into your life and just has a way of breaking you down and releasing all the sadness in your heart. But for the better part of the 21st Cent we've seen gimmicks taking the core place in forming song lyrics and although I have nothing against them, they are great, I still feel like they do not make any sense and songs actually lose their taste once saturated with gimmicks.
